Anglers beat the frost to record fine catches

As the freezing temperatures took a grip Shefford & District AA’s stillwaters slowly became covered in a layer of ice.

Chris Holmes has only recently taken up fishing and managed his first ever carp in the shape of a small common from Broom Lake.

He used a pop-up bait over a small bed of boilies fished less than a rod length from the bank and landed the fish at 4.30am.

Fraser Hayden was keen to catch a fish in the snow so he ventured out to a Biggleswade & Hitchin AA controlled stretch of the River Ouse at Tempsford.

He managed to get just one bite but the effort was well worth it as it turned out to be a pristine 5lb 4oz chub. The successful bait was 10mm mini boilies.
