Bedfordshire Roller Girls beaten by the Norfolk Brawds

The Bedford based team hosted the Heartlands Series tournament game in Houghton Regis.

Coletteral Damage, jamming for the Brawds, took the first four points of the bout but then gave away a penalty, leaving BRG’s Cherry Bomb to take the lead.

Both teams battled to take the lead with several changes early on in the game. But when BRG called their first team time out the score was 30-46 to the Norfolk Brawds.

Soon the teams were neck on neck with BRG climbing back into the lead with 50-46 after a star pass saw Kookiekat become BRG’s jammer.

But the game began to go downhill for BRG and the Norfolk Brawds gradually took back the points as the first half drew to a close, seeing them well ahead with a score of 107 to the Brawds and 61 to BRG at half time.

And the Brawds further increased their lead as the clock counted down the second half, with the final score standing at 231-111. Both teams fought hard but the Norfolk Brawds had the edge over BRG this time.

BRG are now preparing for their next game, which will be against Milton Keynes Roller Derby on Saturday, June 7.

Glossary:

Jammer: The skater who scores the points. One per team at any time.

Jam: Each two minute segment of the game. Players on track can change each jam.

Power jam: When there is only one jammer on track because the other is in the penalty box.

Star pass: When the jammer gives her jammer helmet cover to another skater in her team mid jam.
