Biggleswade prove too strong for bottom side

At the half way stage of the season Biggleswade have won four of their seven games putting them in the top half of the Division Five table.

They are likely to need to win six out of seven in the second half if they are to achieve promotion in their debut summer league season.

First up against Chantry on Tuesday was Chris Moss at number three against Martin Day. In the first game Moss appeared to be cruising to victory at 13-7 before Day won six consecutive points to level the scores.

Moss recovered his composure to take the next two points to win the game. The second game went 15-11 to Moss and Moss sealed a straight game victory taking the third 15-8.

Nathan Bascom at number one against Chantry skipper John Grieves got off to a winning start taking the first 15-12.

Some dogged retrieving by Grieves saw him take the second and third games 15-12 and 15-11. In the fourth Grieves appeared to suffer from his exertions and Bascom had the chance for a rare 15-0 game win.

Grieves managed to avoid this embarrassment but Bascom took the game 15-3 to take things to a deciding game. With both players seeking their first win of the summer season the fifth game was beset by nervous errors. Grieves maintained his composure better than Bascom to take the game 15-9 and level the match at one each.

Last up at string two was Jimmy Hart against unorthodox Tom Brady.

Hart took a while to adapt to his opponent playing left and right handed but settled to take the first game 15-10. A comfortable win in the second for Hart 15-7 put Biggleswade in touching distance of the win and, despite a spirited effort by Brady in the third, Hart sealed victory, 15-12.

Final score: Biggleswade 11 Chantry 3.

Following a week off next week Biggleswade are then at home to Ickleford.
