Cup holders through to semi-finals

Britannia Cup holders Caldecote made it safely into the semi-finals and a trip to either Biggleswade United Reserves or Westoning Recreation Club with a 3-0 win at Campton.

The opener came on 14 minutes when Gareth Boness headed home after meeting a pin-point cross from Dave Daniels while just six minutes later the same player doubled the score when a clever chip from Mark Phillps found him hugging the same back post to nudge home his second. The seal of approval aerived ten minutes from time when Jack Aris opened the way for Phillps to score the third.

In a first round tie, Blunham came from behind with two late goals to secure a 3-2 win at Sharnbrook. Michael Hutton gave Blunham the lead on ten minutes but when Darren Minney levelled five minutes into the second period and Lawrence Bentham put Sharnbrook 2-1 up on the hour and a shock looked on the cards.

However Andy Smith made it 2-2 15 minutes from time from the penalty spot before netting the winner five minutes later. Blunham now face a home tie against Woburn in round two for the right to visit Southill Alexander in the semis.

Bedfordshire FA Intermediate Cup

LEIGHTON United bade farewell to this season's Intermediate Cup at the quarter-final stage when beaten 1-0 at home soil by United Counties League, AFC Kempston Rovers Reserves.

Premier Division

Oakley Sports maintained their Premier Division quest with a 6-1 win against AFC Kempston Town. Ashley Banks set them on the way but by half time Scott Tallentire had levelled for the Town. But the second half belonged to the hosts. Stuart Kelly played the opening half in goal after Ricky Holmes had been taken ill prior to kick off and he scored a hat-trick after Holmes who watched from the bench but felt well enough to go between the posts for the second period while James Cooper weighed in with the other two.

Wilshamstead took their unbeaten ways to six games with a 3-0 victory over Renhold United. Michael Jones netted the first after 20 minutes before Paul Jones made it 2-0 15 minutes later. And the points were sealed with a third goal from Colin Marshall on the hour mark.

At the bottom, Southill Alexander find themselves without a win in their last nine outings after Dunton ended their own 11 games without a win run with a 3-2 victory at the Carlsberg Stadium. John Lynch put the hosts in front on 15 minutes but a Lawrence Bosher penalty levelled it on the half hour.

A Danny Carmels own goal restored the lead for Southill until goals from Barry Morris on 65 minutes and Tom McGhee ten minutes from time won the day for Dunton.

Division One

WITH leaders Flitwick Town sitting the afternoon out, Caldecote Reserves closed the gap to 12 points with a 3-0 home win over Kempston and goals from Roy Anderson, Paul Gower and Kai Griffiths-Shilton.

Losing ground on Caldecote were Meltis Albion who were held to a 2-2 draw at Ickwell & Old Warden Reserves. Goalless at the break, Lee Threadgold gave the hosts the lead before strikes from Darren Ashpole and Daniel Wells looked likely to give Albion the points. That was until Andrew Vallom popped up in the 89th minute with an equaliser.

Marston Social delivered their supporters a first away victory in eight outings with a 3-0 win at Bedford Sports Athletic to keep their promotion hopes alive. All the goals came in the second period from Darren Rowlett

(two) and Phil Distin.

Sandy are now unbeaten in their last six and back into the top half of the table after winning 4-1 at bottom of the table Kempston Hammers Sports. It was all over after 20 minutes when goals from Ian Hammett, Niko Stanchev and Sam James put them 3-0 up and while Shaun Winconek pulled one back on 80 minutes, Chris Baines restored Sandy's three goal advantage.

At Hillgrounds a single goal from Carl Warner was enough to ensure Blunham Reserves a 1-0 win over hosts AFC Kempston Town Reserves while FC Meppershall are now unbeaten in their last three away trips after winning 3-2 at Stevington. Nico De Vries bagged a hat-trick with replies from Ian Woods and Aaron Fletcher.

Division Two

BEDFORD Hatters Division Two lead is down to three points after Potton Wanderers came up with a 2-0 home win over Shefford Town. Ricky Aris netted the opener with James Hearson doubling it in the second period.

Clifton are unbeaten in four away trips after a 404 draw at Harpur FC. Greg King hit a hat-trick alongside one from Barrie Hallybone whilst the home replies came from Nathan Austin, Richard Andrews, Cameron Brown and Fabio Cataldo.

For bottom of the table Shillington it was an 11th consecutive defeat when beaten 6-1 at Great Barford. Daniel Stafford (three), Freddie Windram (two) and a single from Lee Warboys were replied to by Lewis Osborne.

Jubilee Cup

WITH Elstow Abbey failing to raise a side to visit Bedford Hatters, the Hatters now journey to Mill Lane to face Potton Wanderers at the Jubilee Cup semis for the right to meet either Marston Shelton Rovers or Brache Sparta Community Reserves in this season's final tie.

Rovers secured their last four spot with a 3-1 win at Arlesey Social Galacticos with goals from Lee Dudley, Aaron Franks and an own goal inside the opening 20 minutes while Lee Shambrook reduced it 15 minutes from time.

Brache Sparta Community Reserves were 2-0 winners at Marabese Ceramics and while it was goalless at the break, an own goal plus a strike from Martin Collins won the day.

Division Three

DIVISION Three leaders Queens Park Crescents maintained their season's 100 per cent away record when a Chris Gardner penalty and a goal from Andy Randell failed to save Stopsley Park going down 3-2.

Second placed Lidlington United Sports made it seven unbeaten with a 2-1 victory at third placed Dunton Reserves with goals from Ben Marwood and Aiden Redmond with Jon Fediw replying.

Sandy Reserves had their first win in ten league outings and moved off of the bottom with a 1-0 home against Westoning Recreation Club Reserves thanks to a first half strike from Dean Haines so Riseley Sports Reserves who were beaten 4-3 at home by Wilshamstead Reserves are now bottom. Ross Zeltabrohov (two), Aaron Smith and Ali Morris were on target for the visitors against home replies from John Steele, Paul Brown and Mark Weekley.

Renhold Village were 6-1 winners over Caldecote 'A' after Carl Townsend struck five times and Dan Goddard once against a lone penalty from Steve Bush.

Division Four

SUNDON Park Rangers' Division Four lead is down to two points after Sharnbrook Reserves (who also have three games in hand) beat them 1-0 thanks to a Bradley Miles goal.

Third placed M & DH Oakley also moved to within six points of the leaders with two games in hand after winning 5-2 at Eastcotts. Shaun Cafferty (two), Danny Lupton, Dan Ellison and Alex Giscombe were on target against home replies via Shane Wilson and Matty Walsh.

At the other end of the table, it was a red letter day for Bedford Park Rangers who closed the gap on Kempston Athletic to goal difference with a 3-1 win against them to earn their first away win of the season. Richard Patterson, Josh Geary and Jimmy Jacob were on target against a reply from Gary Whitbread.

Flitwick Town Reserves extended their unbeaten run to five games with a 4-0 home won against Stewartby Village and the goals came from Peter Kouwenberg, Ryan Short, Chris Breeds and Richard Davidson.

And finally, Clifton Reserves scheduled home game with Dinamo Flitwick was called off due to the state of their Whiston Crescent pitch.
