Five gold medals means Andrea is queen of the throwing events

LANGFORD athlete Andrea Jenkins is set to fly to Sacramento in the USA in later this month to represent Team GB following a five-star display at the British Masters Championships at Birmingham last Thursday (June 30) where she claimed an amazing five gold medals.

And the Nene Valley Harriers took her tally of national titles to nine, having also taken three (hammer, discus, weight) at the Winter Championships as well as winning the throws pentathlon.

Andrea (pictured left) was competing in the Over-35 women’s competition in Birmingham and won the shot with putt of 9.98m, the discus in 39.21m, the hammer at 50.93m, the javelin in 24.41m and weight with a throw of 15.46m.

Two week’s earlier she defied the wet conditions at Milton Keynes to smash the British Over-35 Throws Pentathlon record.

She easily beat the old record by 160 points to leave it at 3,341 and to shatter a record that had stood for over eight years.

Andrea’s best score came in her favoured hammer event where she threw 44.60m to earn 906 points. The shot flew 9.90m for 546 points while the discus went out to 38.04m (643), the javelin at 23.27m (377) while a fine weight throw of 14.73m earned her another 869 points.

Earlier in the year she came back from the British Masters Outdoor Throws Championships with three golds, having won the discus, hammer and weight.
