Guillem Balague: We are still in limbo as to outcome of the season

At the time of writing here at Biggleswade United we are still in limbo as to exactly what the final outcome of the 2019/20 season will actually be.

For the time being we are going to have to assume, until we hear otherwise, that it is to be declared void or, perhaps, finally calculated on a point per game basis to decide such things as promotion, relegation etc.

What seems unlikely is that any remaining fixtures will be played, something which I personally believe is a real shame.

We find ourselves in unprecedented times and of course you must postpone what is due to take place now and in the immediate future. That said I have yet to speak to anyone who can explain to me why we can't freeze the season as it stands and effectively carry on where we left off when we are finally rid of this cursed virus.

We owe it to the players, volunteers and fans of ALL clubs in the country in return for their efforts over the past eight months, irrespective of where they happen to currently sit in their respective league tables.

We should continue the season to its logical conclusion because, in my opinion, to do otherwise is to disrespect everything that has gone before, be it the triumphs or reversals, the high and the lows.

And if that means we don't resume proceedings until August, September, October or whenever and don't start the 20/21 season until January, February or March of next year, then so be it.

But that is just my opinion and I fully understand it is not one that is shared by everybody. I will make no further comment on it. What is currently most important, however, is that whatever is decided it is decided quickly, and then with this dreadful chapter in our lives confined to the pages of history, we can all move on with hope and optimism.

Here at Biggleswade United we will prepare to go again in a new season hopefully with the same squad, the same positive mentality, and with another opportunity for us to take this club to where we would like it to be.

This season it took us at least two months to get the right squad together and if the curtain does come down on our campaign now it will do so with us at least having the consolation of finishing third which is as high up the league table as we have ever done.

We will return and, until we do, I urge everyone to stay safe and STAY INDOORS

Guillem
