Bedfordshire League: AFC Kempston Town fall to bottom side

They were behind just 30 seconds into the contest following a strike from Stevie Yessian and further goals from Chris Prior and Jonny Butler were only replied to once by Josh Sturniolo.

This victory failed to lift Sharnbrook off the bottom of the Premier Division supported by Sportsform table as Caldecote ran out 2-1 home winners over third place Lidlington United Sports.

The visitors went ahead in the 10th minute via James Snowden but strikes in the 30th and 55th minutes from Mark Phillips won the day for Caldecote.

For second place Shillington they remained unbeaten at home and stretched their overall unbeaten run to nine with a 2-0 win over Renhold United. Adrian Fontennie netting both goals.

Now in fourth place are Wilstead who are unbeaten in six after a 5-4 victory at Flitwick Town. Paul Jones twice, Colin Marshall, Liam Parker plus an own goal brought up the nap hand against home goals from Dan Stafford with a brace plus Paul Nockles and Richie Bevan.

Elsewhere there were aways wins for both AFC Oakley Sports M&DH and Shefford Town & Campton. AFC winning 3-0 at Pavenham thanks to a Shaun Barnett hat-trick while the Town won 2-1 at Wootton Blue Cross, Adam Larsen and Michael Jones netting the vital goals against a home response from Nathan Mallett.

Division One

League leaders Goldington were just two minutes away from suffering their first defeat of the season before Andrew Plaiter struck to earn them a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw at Shefford Town & Campton Reserves. Ryan Dobson netted in the opening half for the hosts.

Now in second are Sundon Park Rangers who retained their perfect home record with a 2-1 victory over a Sandy side that was losing its unbeaten away record. Matthew Bonner and Matt Conway netted the goals against a reply from Phil Beall.

The biggest winners of the day were Bedford Sports Athletic, now in fifth, who ran out 6-1 home winners over Luton Boys Seniors. Andrew Latimer bagged a hat-trick supported by two goals from Ashley Mead and a strike from Ashley Banton against a lone reply from Lisandro Lavares.

Just one goal behind them were Henlow who secured their first away win of the season, 5-1 at Brickhill Tigers. Jo Spencer led the way with a hat-trick and he was backed up by strikes from James Campbell and Russell Ayles to bring up the nap hand against a lone Tigers reply from Kieran Langley.

Also winning on the road were both Eastcotts AFC and Marabese Ceramics.

Eastcotts AFC required just a goal from Kaylin Wilson to extend their unbeaten ways to five games with a 1-0 victory at bottom of the table Bromham United. Meanwhile The Tilermen took their unbeaten ways up to seven games with a 4-1 win at Woburn Lions. John Vooght with a hat-trick plus a strike from Lou Marabese only being replied to by a single goal from Lions Matt Holland .

Division Two

There is no change at the head of the division two table following wins for the top two sides.

For league leaders Potton Town it was win number seven on the bounce to retain their unbeaten ways when a brace of goals from Chris Moore took them to a 2-0 victory at Cranfield United.

Whilst second place AFC Oakley Sports M&DH Reserves romped to an 8-1 home win over Riseley Sports. Jimmy Grandidge and Kieran Souter both scored twice alongside single strikes from Raymond Patrickson, Carl Page, James Cane and John Hislop against the lone reply from Lloyd Pollock.

With third place Potton United Reserves sitting the afternoon out, Queens Park Crescents failed to jump above them by being held to a 1-1 draw at AFC Harlington. James Bennett was on the home scoresheet against a Crescents reply via Ayaz Hussain.

Now just a point behind the Crescents in fifth are Clifton who ran out 4-0 home winners over Kings AFC - Lee Austin, Tony Norman, James Fuller and Chris Mattingley all finding the back of the net.

Elsewhere, it was an opening win for both Renhold United Reserves and Co-op Sports. Bottom side United claimed a 2-1 home win over AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College Reserves despite a goal from John Shittu. Alas the victory failed to lift them off the bottom as Co-op Sports, with a single goal from Paul Power, were 1-0 home winners over Great Barford who now drop into the second from bottom spot.

Division Three

The only game of the day saw Stevington move up into second spot just three points shy of leaders Meltis Albion with a 6-0 home win over Kempston Hammers. Jordan McMullen and Aaron Fletcher both netted twice alongside single strikes from Joe Holyoak and Gorgio Lamula.

Division Four

Mid Beds Tigers lifted themselves up to sixth place with a 4-1 victory at Caldecote A for whom it was a fourth consecutive defeat. Jay Smith with a brace plus Steve Pugh and Brad Dennis were on the Tigers scoresheet, Tom Dupey scored for Caldecote.

Watson Shield Round One

The top giant killing act belonged to Moggerhanger United who ran out 5-2 home winners over Elstow Abbey Reserves. Behind 1-0 at half-time with the Abbey goal from Aiden Powell and then again 2-1 after Ben Beattie had netted, United with two goals from Paul Beith and George Tyrer and a single strike from Liam Donovan were three goals clear by the final whistle.

Joining them in the giant killing stakes were Clapham Sports who won 4-2 at Kempston Athletic. Martin Hull, Mario Esposito, James Munro and Neil Latham all found the back of the net against home replies via Mo Banda and Gavin Matthews.

Just missing out on a spot of giant killing were Wootton Village who went down in a 5-4 penalty shoot-out at home to Meltis Albion after a 2-2 draw. Adam Flynn and Valiant Mudokwani scored for the Village against Albion replies from Steve Goodman and Daniel Smith.

Alas for Meltis Albion Reserves it was a 5-3 penalty shoot-out defeat at home to Clifton Reserves after the sides were deadlocked at 1-1. Josh St Clair Pierre netted for the home side and Gavin Stackman for the visitors.

The biggest winners were Bedford Panthers with an 11-2 win at AFC Bush. Aaron Perrett scored fve times alongside braces for Gary Phillipson, Giuseppe Lamberti and Tom Wade against home replies from Chris Moore and Daniel Green.

Also winning on the road were Kempston Con Club Sports and Dinamo Flitwick. The Sportsmen, with goals from Clayton Lawrence and Ryan Collis, won 2-1 at Atletico Europa for whom Gary Townsend was on the mark.

Dinamo required extra time to win 4-1 at Bedford Park Rangers. It was Rangers who struck first via Greg Etheridge from the penalty spot in the 68th minute before Josh Pearson netted eight minutes from time to square matters up - saving his own blushes for missing a first half penalty to take the game into extra time. In that time, Dean Myers netted twice and Pearson once to take Dinamo to victory.

For Marston Shelton Rovers Reserves it was a 4-1 home win over Flitwick Town Reserves. Nathan Evans, Dan Parkes, Joe Sames and Carl Borromeo all found the back of the net against a lone Town reply from Nick Atkins.

Whilst Westoning with goals from Stuart Jeffrey and Tom Cooksley were 2-1 home winners over Shefford Town & Campton A for whom Wayne Haxton replied.

Elsewhere, FC Houghton gained revenge for their league defeat last weekend by beating Sandy Reserves. Lawrence Taylor with a brace and James Douglas scored for the home side against a reply from Carl Mercer. Wilstead Reserves required extra time to gain a 3-1 home success over Cranfield United Reserves. Matthew Johnson, Hanni Thiarra and Ciaran McEvoy were on their scoresheet against a lone reply from United’s Ben Norrish.
