AFC threatened in the early stages as Stefan Tracey saw his fierce drive brilliantly headed off the line by Max York, but the Waders’ extra class showed behind midway through the half when Lee Allinson turned smartly in the box and fired home.

It was 2-0 just before the break when Hatters fan Brett Donnelly achieved a lifelong ambition of scoring at Town’s ground as he netted with a downward header from Joe Reynolds’ pinpoint cross.

AFC came had their moments as second half substitute Jay Blackett saw his header whacked away before it crossed the line, again by York, before sending an acrobatic volley just off target.

Courtney Massey’s long-ranger was tipped over by Waders keeper Michael McEntagart, before Biggleswade wrapped up the win on 70 minutes as Paul Barnes slotted home with virtually his first touch after coming off the bench.

Blackett was shown a straight red for an off the ball incident in the closing stages but it couldn’t take the gloss of a superb week for Biggleswade, who won promotion to the Southern Premier League for the first time in their history on Monday.
