Davis nets twice for Aston Villa in Waders return

It was a fantastic night watched by almost 200 spectators who saw a great game played in the right way with the ball barely leaving the grass.

Although the score ended as an emphatic victory for the Villains U18s it didn’t really tell the true story. Young Mitch Waters in the Waders goal had a game he will want to forget but the young Waders still gave a good account of themselves.

The Biggleswade youngsters did score first as Lee Northfield opened up the Villa defence as he found Rhys Thorpe and, unlike the previous night, Rhys tucked it away.

Unfortunately for the waders the returning Davis was given the captaincy and after 20 minutes back on his old stamping ground he first headed villa level then two minutes later he finished a cross from the right.

The third came from a 25 yard strike that Waters could only push into his own net. Villa added two more quick goals that again should have been stopped, and the sixth and seventh arrived before 35 minutes were up.

Then in the last 10 minutes the waders could have had three of their own as Rhys Thorpe saw the Villa keeper pull of a great save.

Zac Tyrrell put one over from 10 yards with the goal at his mercy and George Bailey also had an effort hacked off the line after great work from Josh Holmes.

Dan smith took over in goal at half time while Cameron Harris and Joel Ives came on at the back. The second half being a far more even contest the waders got their second as a cross from George Riley saw Rhys Thorpe plant his header past the stranded keeper.

Biggleswade introduced Charlie Luff, Ewan Smaile,s Ozzie Smith, Conor inskip and Liam Beech on 60 minutes and all of them played their part as the play swung from end to end, Smailes at the centre of most of it.

The last 25 minutes also saw Jack Vincent, who was struggling from the previous night’s game, and two of the Biggleswade under 16 side in Taz Andrews and Luca Stalham again all looking comfortable in the environment.
