Guide to the weekend’s football fixtures

Caldecote’s quest for a record breaking ninth top-flight championship title this weekend sees them hit the road for Marston Playing Fields to be hosted by sixth place Marston Shelton Rovers. The boys from Cally will be looking for their fifth away win on the bounce and an extension of their unbeaten ways into double figures against a Rovers side that has tasted defeat on home soil this season just the once against Arlesey Town Reserves and who will be looking for their own fourth win on the bounce.

For second place Arlesey Town Reserves it’s participation in perhaps the game of the week when at their Armadillo Stadium base they defend their season’s unbeaten home ways when called upon by third place Oakley Sports M&DH.

Over on The Green, Ickwell & Old Warden will be fully expected to return to winning ways on home soil when visited by a Bedford Hatters side whose lone win on the road to date this season came as long ago as early September at Sharnbrook. Whilst talking of Sharnbrook, this weekend they play hosts to Renhold United at Lodge Road. United make the short trip having lost their season’s unbeaten away ways at AFC Biggleswade last weekend fully aware that their eleventh place hosts have won their last three home outings and will be no pushovers.

Elsewhere, for bottom of the table Bedford Sports Athletic the quest for their first win of the season sees them entertain Shefford Town & Campton at Grange Road. Whilst the club immediately above them in the standings Wilshamstead will also be in home action, when at Jubilee Playing Fields they look to end a run of four consecutive home defeats against a AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College side whose lone away win to date of the season came at Shefford Town & Campton back in late September.

Meantime the final top flight action comes at Hurst Grove, the venue at which hosts Lidlington United Sports will defend their season’s unbeaten home ways against a Flitwick Town side who are now unbeaten in their last four trips away from their Steppingley Road.

In Division One, with league leaders Pavenham sitting the afternoon out second place Shillington go in search of home win number six on the bounce at Greenfield’s against the visiting Elstow Abbey knowing that just a single point would be sufficient to take them back to the top of the table. Whilst down at the other end of the table, basement side AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College Reserves search out their first win of the season when at Hillgrounds they host a Luton Boys side whose five away outings to date this season have all ended in defeat.

For second from bottom table Kings AFC its home King George VI Playing Field action seeking out home win number two of the season against a Sandy side who will travel looking for just their own second away win of the season.

Elsewhere, the billing of the game of the day in this division perhaps belongs to the Harvey Close clash between fourth place hosts Caldecote Reserves and the visiting third place and still 100 per cent on the road this season Leighton United. Whilst at Rectory Road, Shefford Town & Campton Reserves look to take their unbeaten home ways up to four games when visited by a Brickhill Tigers side whose lone away win of the season to date came at Henlow on the second Saturday of the season way back in September.

In Division Two league leaders Goldington will be fully expected to return to winning ways on home soil when a yet-to-win-on-the-road-this-season Westoning side visit them in Mowsbury Park. Whilst three of their major rivals for the title also enjoy home advantage, at their Ickleford Playing Field headquarters Marabese Ceramics receive a visit from a Bromham United side who are yet to gain any points on the road this season. For Woburn Athletic its action at Crawley Road against St Joseph Reserves where the points might be harder to obtain and at Weston Park, Eastcotts AFC will be in search of just their second home success of the season when they go into local derby action against Cranfield United Reserves.

The one major title contender hitting the road this weekend are Sundon Park Rangers, for them it’s a trip to Miller Road to take on Meltis Albion.

The Rangers looking for their first away win since mid-October at Marabese Ceramics against an Albion side that has lost its last four home games.

For bottom of the table Potton United Reserves it’s a trip to Mowsbury Park where their hosts will be Queens Park Crescents who are just one point and one position above them in the league standings. Whilst ninth place Stopsley Park head for a visit to Oakley Playing Fields to take on Oakley Sports M&DH Reserves.

In Division Three, league leaders Marsh Leys make tracks to face Stevington at their Playing Field headquarters still unbeaten on the road this season. Whilst second place Clifton are in home Whiston Crescent action against a Wilshamstead Reserves side that has lost its last two away outings to drop into the bottom half of the league standings.

Just down the road at Horseshoes Close, it’s local derby action between hosts Dunton and the visiting Ickwell & Old Warden Reserves. The home side looking for their third home win on the bounce to send their visitors to their fourth consecutive away defeat.

Still very much in the promotion mix are third place Riseley Sports, for them now unbeaten in their last nine outings it’s a trip on the road to face a Renhold United Reserves side at their Playing Field headquarters who have been beaten just once on home soil this season. Whilst over at Cutler Hammer, hosts Kempston Hammers Sports go in search of home win number one of the season against the visiting Potton Town.

Other action coming at Greenfield Road, the venue at which hosts Westoning Reserves receive a visit from second from bottom table Bedford Park Rangers who have failed to win any of their last nine games. In Division Four, league leaders Bedford Panthers head to Digswell Playing Fields to defend their 100 per cent season’s away record against Shefford Town & Campton A. Whilst their nearest rivals for the title Elstow Abbey Reserves will be defending their own season’s 100 per cent home record at The Warren against a visiting Dunton Reserves side who are now unbeaten in their last three trips away from Horseshoes Close.

Over at Steppingley Road, it’s local derby action between hosts Flitwick Town Reserves and Dinamo Flitwick. With the visitors having failed to win on the road all season you would expect the home side to prevail. Whilst it’s also derby action time in Hillgrounds where Kempston Con Club Sports defend their season’s 100 per cent home record against Kempston Athletic.
