Biggleswade Town manager Chris Nunn says pre-season preparations are coming along nicely after agreeing new deals with another five members of his squad.

Last season’s top scorer Sam Reed has put pen to paper on a new contract, along with Lee Smith, Evan Key, Mark Coulson and Russell Twin.

And Nunn is confident that he will bring in a couple of new faces as the Waders look to build on last season’s impressive Calor League Southern Premier Division Campaign.

“I’m thrilled with how things are going, to be honest,” said Nunn. “The main aim from last season was to keep the squad we’ve got and then cherry pick a few more players, and I’m confident of doing that.

“It’s all about continuity – we’re not a club who needs to make many new signings after such a terrific season last year.

“But we’ve got some new players coming training who we think can complete the jigsaw.

“I’m always a great believer that players should come and experience training first and see whether they like it and fit in, before signing.

“I won’t be completing any new signings until pre-season has started because I want to feel confident that the players are going to enjoy playing here.

“I think that’s important, especially at this level.”

The Waders begin their pre-season friendly schedule with a home match against newly promoted League Two side Cambridge United on July 12, and Nunn says he is raring to go for the clash.

“The Cambridge United game will be a great game because it is their first pre-season fixture after being promoted to league football,” he said.

“We’ve got about six pre-season games lined up so far, but we are looking to add a couple more.”
