Key strikes twice as Waders edge past Histon

Key, until recently at Histon, strick twice to sink the former Conference side now battling relegation from the Southern League Premier Division.

On paper this should have been an easy win for Biggleswade with Histon sitting at the wrong end of the table and results not going their way.

This didn’t turn out to be the case on the field though as a host of chances went begging for the Waders in the first half. Connor Vincent was the unluckiest of the boys in green as he hit the bar twice in the opening period.

However the hosts went in front with 13 minutes gone with an excellent strike as Key received the ball, turned and lobbed the keeper from the edge of the box.

Histon responded and were level just before the half hour. Sam Ives, who ironically used to play at the Waders, placed a shot just inside the post to level up the scores.

More chances were created and squandered but Biggleswade were back in front shortly before the break.

Key found himself free outside the box and his rifled shot beat the keeper to restore the lead.

The second 45 saw Histon, with the adrenalin flowing, pushing the Waders back for long periods. Chances were at a premium and neither side created much to trouble the keepers.

A series of substitutions by both sides was unable to unlock the game and no more opportunities were created in the final 15 minutes.

Waders now have two more home games - welcoming midtable Kings Lynn on Saturday before bottom side Bideford make the long trip up on Tuesday.
