Late goal confirms Sandy Ladies' defeat

Sandy Ladies battled to the end but went down 3-1 at home to Letchworth GC Eagles on Sunday.

Once again Sandy were struggling for players and started their first League match in four weeks with just ten on pitch, and one of those was so ill she shouldn’t really have been playing at all.

Despite the fact they were one short Sandy were really competitive for the first 20 minutes and created several chances. Faye hit the bar following a great run from the back four and the defence kept Letchworth at bay as well.

Amie in goal and the back four of Kirsty, Alicia, Jade and Faye all worked really hard but Faye was the outstanding player making several great runs down the left wing as well as performing great defensive duties.

Letchworth went in front on 25 minutes following a quick break and that was the only goal of the first half.

The midfield of Katie, Kayleigh, Chloe & Loren helped create several chances for Amber who was on her own up front, as well as chances for themselves and when Pearl arrived and went on pitch in midfield after perhaps 30 minutes that allowed Chloe to move up front with Amber.

In the second half both sides were equally attack minded and Chloe Amber, Katie and Loren all had chances but Letchworth extended their lead on 69 minutes.

Kirsty worked really hard down the left in the second half supporting the attack but never forgetting her defensive duties.

It would not have been surprising if Sandy heads had dropped going 2-0 down with only 11 players against a squad of 15, who could make good use of rolling subs to get fresh legs on pitch, but on the contrary the second goal seemed to enhance Sandy’s attacking efforts.

On 82 minutes Chloe ran on to a great through ball from Faye now playing in midfield and hit a lovely shot that gave the advancing keeper no chance.

Sandy were back in it and tried hard to get the equaliser but unfortunately tiredness caught up and in the 92 minute, with virtually the last kick of the match, conceded a third goal.
