New Year’s Eve action: Arlesey lose, Waders draw

Arlesey Town’s poor Southern League form continued at Chesham United on Saturday as they went down 2-0 and as a result they slipped into fourth from bottom spot after Bedford Town won 2-1 away at Banbury.

The Blues conceded in the the 32nd and 39th minutes as Thomas and Wales struck for the second placed side, the result leaving Chesham tied with Premier Division leaders Brackley Town while Leamington have slipped to third on goal difference, all three having scored 42 points.

At the Carlsberg Stadium, Biggleswade Town went held in a 1-1 draw by visitors Burnham after both sides had a man sent off.

With eight yellow cards (four apiece) and reds for both Stuart Lochhead and Burnham’s John Munday following a professional foul as the last defender on Craig Daniel, the 141 spectators were left somewhat baffled to some of the referee’s decisions on a slippery playing surface.

The Waders went ahead four minutes into first half stoppage time courtesy of Bradley Hewitt while the visitors finally drew level in the 77th minute through substitute Adam Dickens.

Having had Friday evening’s trip to Rothwell Corinthians postponed due to a waterlogged Seargeant’s Lawn pitch, it means that Potton United have maintained their unbeaten run in the month of December (four wins and adraw) while Darren Staniforth and Glen Clark are probably now favourites to be take the UCL manager of the month award.
