Poor Potton slump to Long Buckby loss

A disappointing display by Potton saw Long Buckby complete the double over them with a 1-0 victory on Saturday.

The strong wind did not make conditions easy, but it was the same for both sides. What was disappointing was that during the 90 minutes Potton did not produce a shot that troubled Long Buckby’s young keeper who was making his first appearance in the first team.

Playing against the wind in the first half Potton took some time to settle and Long Buckby dominated play for the first 20 minutes, Manny Salumu’s effort saved and Ricky Barby shooting wide.

Potton were conceding too far many free kicks for fouls and from one of these Ben Wilson headed wide when well placed. Potton failed to clear another attack that ended in Barby heading over the bar.

Potton started to come more into the game and Calum Forster had a good run but shot wide. Joe Aris had a good effort from 20 yards that went just wide.

A Potton free kick was taken by Joe Aris that found Gary Ansell-Carter who crossed for brother Mark but he could not hit the target. Another free kick found Gary Ansell-Carter whose effort went over the bar.

Buckby started the second half well and a header by Salumu was saved by Lewis. In the 50th minute a Bickby corner found Barby who headed home from close range for what proved to be the only goal of the game.

Potton fought back and Forster saw his shot deflected resulting in an easy save for keeper Ryan Bendzak.

Barby was put through and saw his shot well saved by Lewis, and Alex Andrews following up also tested Lewis but he was up to the task.

Aris saw his shot deflected over the bar for a corner and Forster’s free kick was easily saved by Bendzak. Chris Reeve had a shot come centre collected by Bendzak.

Saturday sees another long journey to Woodford United.
