PREVIEW: Beds County Football League

For third place Lidlington United Sports who have been beaten just the once on home soil at Hurst Grove this season the visitors are an Ickwell & Old Warden side who have lost their last three away outings.

Whilst at Jubilee Playing Fields, fourth place Wilstead having lost their last two home games host a Pavenham side looking for their third win on the bounce.

Over at Redborne School, fifth place Flitwick Town will be hoping to take their unbeaten ways up to four games when visited by ninth place Shefford Town & Campton who will hit the road looking to end a sequence of three straight defeats and at Weston Park, third from bottom of the table Wootton Blue Cross play hosts to Caldecote who sit just one place and one point behind them in the league standings.

Other action sees bottom of the table Sharnbrook look for their third home win on the bounce at Lodge Road when visited by a Marston Shelton Rovers side who have lost their last three away games and Renhold Playing Fields is the venue where Renhold United now on a two game losing run entertain near neighbours AFC Oakley Sports M&DH.

In Division One for league leaders Sundon Park Rangers it will be the defence of their seasons 100 per cent home ways when second from bottom of the table Shefford Town & Campton call upon them in Stockwood Park. Whilst second place AFC Turvey defend their own seasons unbeaten home ways at Stonefield’s against Bedford Sports Athletic whose lone away win to date this season came at bottom of the table Bromham United way back in mid-October.

With third place Goldington sitting the afternoon out, there is a chance for either fourth place Henlow or fifth place Eastcotts AFC who both trail them by a single point to jump above them after their scheduled encounter at Groveside.

Henlow going into the game having won their last seven league starts and the visitors on an eight game unbeaten run.

Still very much in the promotion picture are Marabese Ceramics who will be in home Ickleford Recreation Ground action against Elstow Abbey who having lost their last four outings are now suddenly nearer the bottom of the league than the top.

Whilst Sandy who trail the Tilermen by just two points but with a game in hand will expect to collect the full three points when called upon at Bedford Road Recreation Ground by bottom of the table Bromham United.

The final action in this division is at Crawley Road where Woburn Lions now without a win from their last eight starts host Brickhill Tigers.

For Division Two league leaders Potton Town, the New Year will commence with a trip on the road to Hillgrounds to defend their seasons unbeaten away record against the hosting AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College Reserves who have failed to win any of their last four league outings to drop down to ninth spot in the league standings.

However, the game of the day in this division comes at Oakley Playing Fields where third place AFC Oakley Sports M&DH Reserves go in search of their fourth home win on the bounce when visited by second place Clifton who will hit the road looking for their own fifth league win on the bounce.

Over in Mowsbury Park, the visitors to face fourth place Queens Park Crescents are a Potton United Reserves side who have now lost their last four league outings to suddenly drop off the pace in their quest for promotion. Whilst at Fishers Close, Great Barford will be looking for just their second home win of the season when called upon by fifth place Kings AFC who will hit the road looking for their third away win on the bounce.

Other action comes at Solway Road North, the venue at which tenth place Co-op Sports receive a visit from second from bottom of the table Renhold United Reserves who are yet to win on the road this season and for bottom of the table Riseley Sports its a home Gold Street outing against the visiting Cranfield United who come in search of their third win on the bounce to edge them back into the promotion race.

In Division Three league leaders Meltis Albion will start the New Year with a trip on the road to Hillgrounds to face second from bottom of the table AFC Bush where it will be a major surprise if they don’t notch up their sixth consecutive win against a home side who have lost their last five games. Whilst second place Stevington will also be on the road to defend their seasons unbeaten away record at Greenfield Road against hosts Westoning who currently sit in third place some five points adrift of them in the league table.

Over at the Warren, fourth place Elstow Abbey Reserves with be in home action against fifth place Kempston Athletic who will hit the road to defend their unbeaten seasons away ways. Whilst for sixth place Kempston Con Club Sports its a trip on the road to Marston Playing Fields to face Marston Shelton Rovers Reserves where they will hope to end their run of three consecutive away defeats.

Other action in this section coming on The Green, the venue at which third from bottom of the table Ickwell & Old Warden Reserves entertain seventh place Bedford Panthers and at Whiston Crescent, bottom of the table Clifton Reserves now without a win from their last 11 outings take on ninth place Wilstead Reserves.

In Division Four for the league leaders FC Hougton its a trip to Harvey Close to face tenth place Caldecote A who have won their last two home outings. Whilst second place Meltis Albion Reserves will defend their seasons unbeaten ways at Miller Road against the visiting eighth place Mid Beds Tigers.

For third place Wootton Village, it’s a trip to King George VI Playing Fields to be hosted by sixth place Clapham Sports and also hitting the road will be fourth place Dinamo Flitwick who travel to Harrowden School in search of win number five on the bounce against the hosting Atletico Europa for whom the quest will be just their third home win of the season.

Over at Moggerhanger Playing Fields the visitors to face the hosting seventh place Moggerhanger United are second from bottom of the table Shefford Town & Campton A who come in search of their first away point/points of the season to end a run of seven consecutive defeats and just down the road at Blunham Playing Fields, Bedford Park Rangers will look to stretch their unbeaten ways up to six games when visited by a Sandy Reserves side who have won just the once on the road this season.
