The home side settled quickly and created the early pressure. Langford played a counter attacking game, with the best early chance falling to Sean McMonagle who shot narrowly wide.

Then, 14 minutes in, Lee Pateman broke down Langford’s left flank and crossed to McMonagle who shot home from five yards out to give the Reds the lead.

In the 22nd minute things got worse for Winslow when goalkeeper George Zammit limped out of the game.

The match settled into a midfield tussle without either team looking likely to score. Then after 42 minutes Charlie Flanagan broke into Langford’s penalty area, went down in a tangle of legs, and a penalty was awarded. Up stepped Flanagan to score from the spot and send the sides in level at the break.

Winslow started the second half at high tempo and pressed looking to take the lead, but sturdy midfield play and solid defending backed by Langford’s man of the match goalkeeper Allie Jaward, kept the home team at bay, Jaward made three almost point blank saves from headers.

In a rare Langford attack David Tembua made a signature run down the right wing, his cross eventually falling to Paul Donald who shot just over the bar.
