Sandy Ladies in league action

Sandy Ladies wrapped up their league campaign with matches against Sharnbrook and Heme;

Sandy Ladies 1 Sharnbrook Women 3

With Sharnbrook pushing to take the runners up spot this was always going to be a hard match but with a string of good performances behind them it was a confident Sandy that took to the pitch.

A hard fought first half with an excellent defensive performance from Gina, Kirsty, Katie, Chloe, Karen and Amy kept Sharnbrook down to just a one goal at half time.

There was also a lot of good work in midfield from Alison, Sophie, Kayleigh and Jenny who was making a very welcome start for the first time nearly 18 months and Dani and Kirstie worked hard to keep Sharnbrook on their toes up front. Jo & Becky came on at half time and Sandy were a little more adventurous in the second half as a result which paid off when Kirstie put Katie through to level the score on 55 minutes. Sharnbrook pressed hard for a result and eventually they scored a very scrappy goal on 70 minutes to get back in front. Sandy battled hard for an equaliser but were caught on the break with just two minutes to go for what looked like a comfortable result for Sharnbrook but the score line flattered them a little. A good performance all round but player of the match went to Gina for an excellent performance in goal making several crucial saves.

Sandy: Gina Godfrey, Kirsty Fylling, Katie Seldon, Chloe Reeves, Karen Varley (Amy Furlong), Alison Main (Jo Mayes), Sophie Webb, Kayleigh Bennett, Jenny Holt (Becky Lyons), Kirstie Gavin & Dani Godfrey

Sandy Ladies 4 Hemel Ladies 0

The last match of a long hard season in Division One and Sandy finally got some home points. A very good all round performance where Sandy should have already scored several times before Kayleigh put Katie through on 20 minutes to score Sandy’s first.

A battling Hemel side made it hard work for Sandy but the pressure told on 70 minutes when Kirstie’s pass to Katie was flicked on for Kayleigh to score the second.

A mazy run just 4 minutes later by Kirstie resulted in her being brought down in the area and she stepped up to score from the spot and make the points safe. Sandy continued to press and Kirstie again put Katie through in injury time for her second and Sandy’s fourth to equal their best score of the season. Sandy’s defence kept Hemel well away from Gina for the most part, but she was equal to the task when required and the midfield of Sophie Chloe, Kayleigh and Alison all worked really hard as did the subs Jenny, Amy and Anja when they came on.

The forwards, Katie & Kirstie, caused havoc in the Hemel defence and so this really was a squad performance with everyone playing a part.

Player of the match went to Katie for her all round effort and determination.

Sandy: Gina Godfrey, Kirsty Fylling, Dani Godfrey (Jenny Holt), Justine Currell, Karen Varley (Amy Furlong), Sophie Webb, Chloe Reeves, Kayleigh Bennett, Alison Main (Anja Kotzur), Katie Seldon & Kirstie Gavin.
