Saturday football: Arlesey and Waders win

Arlesey Town produced a cracking first half performance at the Armadillo Stadium on Saturday afternoon to lead Weymouth 3-0 at half time in what was a must win match.

With just one home Evo-Stik Premier Division win to their credit this season before the start - and that was against Brackley on August 23! - the home supporters among the afternoon’s 173 spectators finally got to celebrate a second although the Blues managed to leak what turned out to be a late consolation goal for the Dorset visitors.

Jordan Patrick and Aston Goss were in fantastic form in the opening half and it was Patrick who opened the score on 15 minutes. And he added a second just after the half hour mark while Chris Marsh made it 3-0 with 37 minutes gone.

But in a low key second half, Weymouth deservedly pulled one back three minutes from time courtesy of Craig Duff for 3-1 to deny Arlesey keeper Nick Bussey a clean sheet.

There was also good news locally on the Southern League Central Division match up the road at the Carlsberg Stadium where Biggleswade Town returned to winning ways, 2-1 against visitors Chalfont St Peter.

Paul Barnes finally opened the scoring with 20 minutes left only for Lewis to level for the visitors a minute later. But with just two minutes left it was striker Brett Donnelly who popped up to bag the Waders’ winner.

There were goals aplenty at Forde Park where Langford hammered seven past Kings Langley in Division One of the Spartan South Midlands League.

Leading scorer Kim Forsythe led the way with a hat-trick while Paul Garrett grabbed a brace while there were singles for Ben Sawyer and James Peters, the visitors pulling goals back in the 7-2 match courtesy of Armstrong and Connelly.

In the SSML Premier Division, Stotfold were held in a goalless draw at home by Hillingdon Borough while Biggleswade United went down 3-1 at home to Hertford Town.

And finally in UCL Division One, Potton United went down 4-0 at home to Huntingdon Town who completed a United Counties League double having won 2-0 at Jubilee Park earlier in the season.
