Saturday football: FA Cup win for Arlesey, Waders go out

A second minute Drew Roberts penalty kick was enough to give joint Southern League’s Premier Division leaders Arlesey Town a 1-0 FA Cup first round qualifying victory on Saturday.

They beat Evo-Stik Central Division leaders Barton on Saturday afternoon at the Rovers’ Sharpenhoe Road ground in front of 152 fans.

But there was no such joy for Biggleswade Town who went down 2-0 away to Wealdstone where a crowd of 302 saw Jolly score against the Waders after 18 minutes while two minutes into the new half Dean added their second.

Having enjoyed back to back United Counties League wins, sixth in the Division One table Potton United were beaten 2-0 at The Hollow by Rothwell Corinthians whose goals came from Elliott Roberts in the 38th minute and Andy White nine minutes into the second half both courtesy of defensive errors.

In the Premier Division of the Spartan South Midlands League, Stotfold went down 2-0 at Tring Athletic while Biggleswade United also failed to score as they lost 3-0 at Hadley.

However there was better news from Forde Park where Wes Byrne’s Langford thrashed visitors Chesham United Reserves 4-0.
