Saturday football: Goal glut at Stotfold, Waders win, Arlesey lose

There were goals galore on Saturday afternoon in the games involving our six Chronicle Country clubs - with nine of them at Stotfold’s Roker Park.

Visitors Aylesbury United had to come from a goal down to win 6-3 at Stotfold although five goals in a ten minute spell at the end of the opening half saw the Ducks go in 3-2 up at the break.

It was Lee Harman who almost gave the Rokermen the lead on 33 minutes but after his header came back off the Aylesbury crossbar, the ball dropped for teammate Nathan Aulsbery who made no mistake with is header.

Two minutes later the visitors were level when Enzo Silvestri’s angled screamer gave home keeper Sam Leggett no chance. Then two goals from Stacey Field on 38 and 40 minutes made it 3-1 to the Ducks before Harman pulled one back in the 43rd minute following good work between Aulsberry and Jonny ‘Scholsey’ Mcnamara.

Just 30 seconds into the new half Stotfold were on terms at 3-3 as Glen Lamacraft fed on for Harman but a double substitution by the visitors ended in two more goals inside a minute as Joey Acheampong and Melford Simpson both scored for 5-2 with their very first touches.

Then it was left for Aylesbury’s Ben Baines to complete the job at 6-3 in the 65th minute as Stotfold’s defences collapsed under pressure - and that makes it 15 goals conceded in their last three outings!

On Tuesday the Rokermen make the short trip to Second Meadow for a local derby with Biggleswade United but next Saturday they are left without a match.
