Saturday football: Waders in Trophy romp, Arlesey draw in league

Biggleswade Town cruised to a 5-0 victory in the FA Trophy Preliminary Round on Saturday.

Brett Donnelly put them ahead at Quorn just past the half hour but it was in the second half that the Waders took control.

Donnelly added a second on the hour, and further goals in the last 20 minutes from Woolf, Hunt and Fuller saw Biggleswade comfortably through.

In the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Arlesey fought back to earn a 2-2 draw at St Albans City.

In front of 396 spectators at Clarence Park the hosts went ahead through Howarth, and Walker doubled the lead with half an hour gone.

But Dillon pulled one back for Arlesey on 72 minutes and Marsh levelled things inside a minute. Town sit fourth from bottom in the table.

In the SSML Premier Division Stotfold were 2-0 home victors over Holmer Green.

Steve Young took charge of team affairs after the resignation of manager Gordon Bickerstaff. He saw his charges take a half time lead through Stuart Lockhead, and Lee Harman completed the scoring seven minutes from time.

Biggleswade United were forced to settle for a point at Tring Athletic. United were ahead on 65 minutes through a Chris Salmon own goal but Connor Waite levelled for Ath three minutes from the end.

In SSML Division one Langford struck late to earn a point at home to Tokyngton Manor.

A brace from Forsyth put the Reds two up at the break. But Protain and George levelled things in a two minute spell just past the hour mark.

Protain scored again to put Manor ahead but Ashley Fitton popped up with a Langford equaliser shortly before time.

In UCL Division One Potton United threw away a two goal lead on Saturday to draw 4-4 at bottom club Sileby.

Steve Thomas, Jamie Steele and Anthony Shurek put Potton in charge with a 3-1 lead at half time.

But Sileby stormed back with three goals to take a 4-3 lead only for Sam Bonham to level for Potton on the stroke of full time.
