After just five minutes in Jake Long slid in to convert a cross from Ben L’Honore to put Stotfold ahead.

They doubled their lead after 20 minutes when a corner from Drew Cardines failed to beat the first man, but the ball found its way back to Drew who swung in a superb centre for Luke Burkett to rise and put a glancing header into the bottom corner.

Ten minutes later Long pressed the keeper on a sloppy back pass leaving L’Honore to slot home into an empty net.

A relaxed Stotfold were now starting to play. Cardines down the right and Jaiden Irish on the left were given free licence to run at the Bedford defence and cause all sorts of problems.

On 40 minutes L’Honore drove into the box on the right and smashed one down the keeper’s throat – it moved in the air and despite the best efforts of the keeper he only succeeded in punching it into his own net for 4-0.

In the second period an expected backlash from Bedford never materialised and Stotfold continued to dictate the tempo.

Despite all of the good attacking work coming from Stotfold they lacked the killer touch. With 15 minutes left Bedford got one back.

Stotfold host London Colney on Saturday and visit Peterborough Northern Star in the Hinchingbrooke Cup on Tuesday.
