Waders succumb to injury time strike

On a very windy day the hosts set about their task with vigour but the Waders matched them all the way, with play swinging from end to end throughout the 90 minutes.

However the home side opened the scoring on 26 minutes when a shot from Hooper caught a deflection to go past the unsighted Brown in the Waders goal.

With their tails up Cirencester forced the pace, putting Biggleswade under real pressure, but steady performances from Gavin Hoyte and Russell Short ably assisted by Max York and Mark Coulson prevented further goals before half time.

Indeed striker Inih Effiong could feel hard done by when he had a strong penalty appeal turned down after being bundled over by Shayne Anson in the box.

Waders pushed forward in the second half although it seemed that their efforts would be in vain. However, with 12 minutes left on the clock Ian Rees popped up and squeezed a volley past the keeper to equalise.

At this point Chris Nunn made three changes to introduce fresh legs, and with Cirencester also bringing on two new faces the linesman had to handle five subs coming off and going on!

Cirencester went very close but were denied by two excellent point blank sales by Brown.

Not to be outdone Conner Vincent brought out a great save from the home keeper as Waders sought a winner.

As the clock clicked down, Cirencester launched everything into the box. One minute into injury time the pressure paid when captain Mat Liddiard guided a volley into the net.

It was a hugely disappointing end for the visitors. They remain firmly in midtable in the Southern League Premier – well clear of the drop zone, and with the play-offs just out of reach – and will look to end the season with a good run.

They return to action this weekend, visiting Dorchester on Saturday before hosting Histon on Easter Monday with a 3pm kick off.
