Weekend football: Arlesey FA Cup joy, Waders beat league leaders

Arlesey Town made it through to the FA Cup First Round after a 1-0 victory at Didcot on Saturday.

Ryan Frater, celebrating his birthday, scored the only goal of the Fourth Qualifying Round tie in the first half when he nodded home Sol Davis’ cross.

Town kept a clean sheet at Didcot in front of 414 spectators to earn a place in the first round draw with league sides.

Meanwhile in the Evo-Stik Division One Central Biggleswade Town came from two goals down to end Godalming Town’s unbeaten start to the season.

The league leaders were two goals to the good at half time thanks to a Darren Wheeler penalty and Warren Harris’s deflected shot.

However the Waders fightback at the Carlsberg Stadium began early in the second half with Joel Mason pulling one back early on.

Brett Donnelly then chipped the keeper to level, and Craig Daniel fired in the winner with just three minutes remaining.

In the SSML Premier Division Stotfold had late goals in each half to thank for a 2-1 victory over London Colney.

Sean Herr netted in injury time in the first half to put Stotfold in front. Matt Norman levelled for the visitors on 72 minutes but Nyasha Sagwete popped up in time added on at the end to net a late winner.

Biggleswade United were left fuming by a penalty decision in their 2-1 defeat at Colney Heath.

United went in front through a Josh Dance goal on 49 minutes but Jamie Eames converted a controversial spot kick four minutes later. Jason Williams netted Colney’s winner 12 minutes from time.

Langford were sunk by a last minute goal at home to Southall in SSML Division One, losing 3-2.

The Reds’ Harry Holland cancelled out Cyrus Vanterpool’s opener to make it 1-1 at half time. Markus Brown put Langford 2-1 up five minutes into the second half but a Dean Auburn goal saw Southall back on level terms and Tyrelle McCleiod-Bentley grabbed the late winner.

In the UCL Division One Potton United earned a point at Bugbrooke.

In the 1th minute Bugbrooke took the lead when George Hunt netted from close range.

But n the 37th minute Chris Reeves played a delightful ball through to Graham Tibballs who fired the ball past the keeper for 1-1, and that’s how it stayed.
