Juniors joy as Beadlow trio defend InterClub title and represent county

The Beadlow Manor juniors successfully defended their Junior InterClub title at Beds & County Golf Club.

Two teams from Beadlow competed with another 13 teams from across the county, and the team of Luke Charalambous (handicap 7), Harry Boyle (hcp 3) and this year’s junior captain Taz Thiarra (hcp 11) returned 41, 32 and 37 points for a team total of 110 which secured the title by two points.

The win sees Beadlow juniors again representing Bedfordshire at the Junior Champion Club, which is held on the Bracken course at Woodhall Spa over 36 holes in early August.

Two days before, Beadlow juniors had travelled to Mowsbury for their latest Tavistock Trophy group match.

An excellent total of 289, comprising gross scores of 72 and 73 from Boyle and Ryan Fitt (hcp 4), and nett scores of 71 and 73 from Charalambous and Harry Bateson (hcp 13), saw an away win achieved, with closest rivals Beds & County also achieving a win with a total of 291.

In a busy week of team golf, Beadlow Manor also saw multiple success in the Royal British Legion National Matchplay adapted betterball event.

The Beadlow Manor B team of Shaun King, Lee Houghton, Annabel Pitts, and Bateson secured an easy win at Aylesbury Vale by 13 holes, while Beadlow C’s James Manning, Bradley Black, Andrew Round and Tait Hamilton beat Peterborough Milton C by three holes to see both teams join Beadlow Manor A in the second round.

Elsewhere, seven Beadlow youngsters made the now annual trip to Kent to compete in the Sittingbourne & Milton Regis Junior Open.

On a tough and demanding golf course, the highlights were rounds of nett 69 and 70, respectively, from Black (hcp 13) and Govind Sandhu (hcp 25).

On the domestic front, the May Junior Trophy was won by Houghton (hcp 28) with a very good haul of 40 points.

The June Junior Medal produced some excellent scoring from several players, with Sandhu and Connor Tomlinson (hcp 32) both returning nett scores of 65, only to be eclipsed by an outstanding nett 60 from Harry Fensome (hcp 36). Boyle scored the best gross of the day with a 2 over par 73.
