Biggleswade are likely to find themselves in a more localised league next season irrespective of where they finish in Midlands 2 East (South) due to major league restructuring.

The RFU has unveiled radical plans for the 2015-16 season in an effort to cut down on long away trips.

This could create more local derbies but could also unbalance the leagues, some critics fear.

There will be a reduced number of teams in the league playing a maximum of 30 league and cup games but with a new cup competition for clubs at all levels, including a Seconds or Development Cup.

The changes have not met with universal approval, being described as ‘swingeing’ in some quarters.

Rolling substitutions will be allowed, as they are in Youth rugby. A salary cap with be introduced for some leagues, a handicap that is unlikely to worry the management at Biggleswade!
