Baby boomers of Biggles

THIS was Richard, aka Dick, Roscoe’s class at Church Road Junior School, Biggleswade in 1953.

Says Richard: “We were all aged about seven years old then and we are now all aged about 65 or so. I was 65 in May.”

Richard is the one seated in the second row wearing a tie, next to the young girl with her arms crossed and directly behind the long serving Mayor of Biggleswade, Mr Peter Vicars.

“The only people I can identify for certain are Terry Hendry in the back row, second from right, and Elizabeth Gammon in the centre of the second row wearing a horizontal striped cardigan.

“Other names I can remember but cannot identify on the photograph are Christine Parry; Susan Rudland; Alan Buck; Colin Huckle; David Dye and Daphne Buckland.

The photo was taken by Ampthill historian Andrew Underwood.

“We were his first class” explains Richard. “He sent the photo home with my son Mark who was a pupil of his at Bedford Modern School in the 1980s.

Richard thought the picture might be of interest to Memory Lane readers who may be able to identify the rest of the class.

In those days, the school was the follow on from Rose Lane Infant School.
