Biggleswade Health Centre opened

It was 25 years ago this week that Solicitor General Sir Nicholas Lyell took time off from the Commons to officially open Biggleswade Health Centre, the new medical facility in Saffron Road.

The Mid Beds MP had planted a tree at the site two years earlier to mark the start of work on the £700,000 centre so health chiefs felt it was only fitting that he should unveil the wall plaque to mark its official opening, although by then, it had already been in use for six months and had an average of 450 patients a week.
