Dancing at the NAAFI
Valerie Child sent Ken this photograph of a dance at the old Biggleswade NAAFI in what is now Bonds Lane. It dates back to about 1955. Both Valerie and Ken between them recognise the following people from left to right: ?, Valerie’s mother Alice Child, Gertie Land, Ada Rook, Ada’s daughter Jean Rook, ?, ?, ?, ?, Jean’s husband who was possibly called Tony, Ada’s son Peter Rook, ?, and Geoff Ward.

Ken also remembers the days of the horse fair in Biggleswade (Memory Lane, February 22, 2013) and believes our photo was taken in approximately 1957 when the number of horses being brought to market had dwindled.
“The fair was held on St Valentines Day and there are records dating back to 1528! The last fair was a year later in 1958” says Ken.
