Electronic dreams come true for Sandy School

With the electronic age now an integral part of all our lives, unbelievably it was only 25 years ago this week that computer-based learning was just becoming a reality for Sandy Upper School.

The opening of a new state-of-the-art computer lab was hailed as the latest “high tech addition” to the school’s facilities.

The lab was unveiled on Friday, March 11, 1988 after having been converted from an old lecture theatre. It contained 15 of the very latest Acorn computers.

Designed, built and furnished by teachers and sixth formers at the school, it used an electronic information service called SUSFAX and was the second lab to open for the benefit of pupils. School governors at the time, Peter Blaine, John Laycock and Gordon Newman were at the opening.
