Happy ending for photo

AN amazing coincidence lies behind this photograph of Trevor Walker’s great grandfather Humphrey standing by his John Deere ‘Waterloo Boy’ tractor, believed to have been taken between 1917 and 1924.

Trevor was looking out some photographs for his cousin Christine Rook, nee Walker, who owns the tractor dealership Lodgeways at Chicksands. He found this photo of their great grandfather Humphrey Walker who was a threshing drum contractor at the turn of last century and thought Christine, who runs the tractor business with husband Christopher, would find it of interest.

Trevor said: “The Waterloo Company was sold to John Deere & Co. in 1918 and the tractor in the picture was marketed in Britain and Ireland under the Overtime brand name, controlled by Harry Ferguson’s garage business.”

Trevor was unsure of the photograph’s exact date and was intrigued to know where it was taken.

Christopher Rook immediately spotted that the photograph was taken on the exact spot where Lodgeways is now situated. He was even able to show Trevor and Christine the farm building in the background as it is still there!

A large framed copy of the photograph is now displayed in the foyer of Lodgeways. And it has more relevance than any of the family realised.
