Pints and pence in 1970s

ROS Giddings brought in this photograph of a celebratory gathering at the Red Lion Public House in Potton.

The occasion was the opening of the charity jar although Ros does not know which charity was the beneficiary.

The pound notes on the table look like the old green ones which were replaced by the smaller ‘pictorial’ pound notes between 1977 and 1979, so the photo would have been taken before this date and is most likely to be from the mid 1970s judging by the clothing and hairstyles.

Ros was able to name four of the people in the picture. Her mother Margaret is in the centre of the front row and to Margaret’s right is Pat Ashwell.

On the far right is the publican Stan Ullison. The lady at the very top right hand side of the photo is Wendy Hartop.

Can readers recognise any of the other faces, including the gentleman in the flowery tie who had the honour of opening the jar?
