Rosebuds of the roaring twenties

Built in 1874 on what was then known as Dog Acre Field, Rose Lane School or Hicks Pits College as it was also called, educated Biggleswade children for around 100 years up until its closure in the 1980s. Many older Biggleswade residents will recall attending it, or will have had parents or grandparents who did.

This photograph is an early glimpse of of a class at the school which was taken c.1920.

Peter Horn kindly emailed us the picture which includes his mother Edith Horn nee Albone in the back row on the extreme right.
