The chapel of their eye

THIS wonderfully clear photograph taken in 1909 is of the members of Caldecote Wesleyan Chapel dressed in all their Edwardian finery and was taken at the chapel’s opening ceremony.

Ronald Bowles kindly brought the photo in to Memory Lane. His father and grandfather are in the group.

The chapel was built by Charles Wright of Langford.

MEMORY LANE readers may recall our feature on the late Dunkirk veteran Bob Empson published just over a year ago. His brother Jim, now living in Ipswich, is returning to his roots to talk about his time in Gamlingay between 1932 and 1950, on Monday, September 12 at 7pm in Gamlingay Village College, Station Road. Contact Peter Swannell on 01767 650825.

Come and learn about wartime Gamlingay, plane crashes, a searchlight being bombed, barrage balloons escaping from Cardington, the Home Guard, and RAF Tempsford to name but a few topics of interest!
