Potton United dropped two points after chances went begging in their 2-2 draw at home to AFC Welwyn.

Potton were without regular goalkeeper Sam Galatis (foot injury) and Matt Gilbert and Harvey Vegh (injuries). In goal was Alex Desmond signed on dual registration from Biggleswade Town and Freddy Moriarty returning from long term injury—the last game he played was early November.

Early play favoured Welwyn with some quick breaks and it was in the 10th minute that Chukwuma collected the ball on the left and cut across the field of play before firing an unstoppable shot from 20 yards to give Welwyn the lead. Welwyn then played a through ball for Chukwuma to run on to and with only Desmond to beat shot wide of the post. Potton were starting to come into the match more and Eddie Connolly had a good run but finished shooting narrowly wide.

Soon afterwards came a most bizarre moment. Khadar collected the ball and from 35 yards saw his shot go into the Potton net, but the referee had disallowed the goal because he, the referee, had blocked a Potton defender getting in a tackle and then restarted with a dropped ball to Welwyn.

Khadar then had a 25 yard shot that was saved at full length by Desmond before Delguadio tried a long shot but was wide of the mark. In the 30th minute a good passing movement down the right for Potton ended with Crowter passing to Freddie Moriarty to shoot past the advancing keeper to level the scores. Before the interval Freddie Moriarty shot over the bar, at the other end Delguadio saw his shot well saved by Desmond and Jack Moriarty shot over the bar. HT 1-1

At the start of the second half Denham headed over from a corner and play soon turned to the other end when Jack Moriarty played the ball through to Freddie Moriarty whose shot was blocked. In the 56th minute Potton took the lead when Elliott played the ball to Cameron Watson whose centre was turned into the net by Mamadou Diallo. Potton continued to attack and Freddie Moriarty played the ball to Connolly who finished with a weak shot. Diallo saw his shot blocked before a good run by Connolly ended with Diallo shooting wide.

From a good attacking move following a corner Connolly saw his shot hit the post and rebound to safety but Welwyn broke quickly and Khadar ran through to score with a fierce shot in the 82nd minute. Moments later Khadar was sent to the sin bin for something he said to the referee. Potton finished strongly with Diallo seeing his shot deflected for a corner and then Charlie Clark passed to Nikolay Rusev who shot over.
