Rockets BMX club retain lead after Norwich trip

BMX Racers from the Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club made the trip to Norwich last Sunday for the 8th round of the Regional summer series and with 16 riders chasing points for their own and the club’s rankings the Rockets still hold the lead in the regional club rankings.

Royston had 2 novice riders taking part in the event and the action started with Alex Burgess in the 7 and under class where he claimed 2nd overall and in the 11-13 yr Novice category the win went to James Kirby. Moving into the expert classes Joshua Abbott took a fine 1st place in the 6 & Under final and in the 8yr class Callum Barrow took 6th.

The 9yr class saw Alfie Salmon take 3rd as did James King in 10 year class with team mate Marmaduke Birt close behind in 4th. In the 11 year class the win went to Miles Fisher and in the 15yr class James Handleigh took another win to boost the club points tally. The 17-24yr category saw Andrew Brooker take 8th in the A final and Shane Mills finished in 2nd in the B final after an earlier fall resulted in a visit to First Aid.

In the Masters category (30+) Richard Townsend took yet another win and the riders on the 24” wheeled “Cruisers” maintained the results tally with Matthew Ellis taking the 30-34 class honours whilst Sam King and Matt Salmon took 3rd and 4th respectively in the 35-39yr category and Carl Birt rounded of the days results with 2nd in the 45+ class.

The next regional event on the race calendar is on August 29th at Peterborough for the penultimate round of the 10 round series but before that the Royston club will be taking part in the national series at Gosport over the weekend of August 12-14th and the following Saturday the club members will be glued to their TV’s hoping to watch the BMX Super Cross event on the London Olympic track.

Royston’s own clubs nights continue with the gates opening at 6.00pm.
