Storms threaten National seties finale

BMX racers from the Royston BMX made the short trip up the A1 to Peterborough last weekend for the final two rounds of the British Cycling National Series. The weekend saw round 10 of the series on Saturday following a morning of practice and round 11 was held on Sunday and the Royston Rockets had 10 riders registered for the event which attracted nearly 600 riders from across the country.

The threatened storms on Saturday materialised in mid-afternoon which delayed the racing for about an hour with the host club having to resort to digging drainage holes in the well manicured grass surrounds.

When racing did resume there was the heavy clouds in all directions and there was doubt if the event could be completed safely in the limited light – the final straw being another deluge with only 9 of the final races to be run and these events were moved to early Sunday morning which was dry and sunny although the track surroundings and camp site was still wet and muddy.

In the very large and competitive 12 year class Royston’s two riders chased each other all the way in the qualifying rounds on both days with Saturday seeing Daniel Blanche finish in 6th place in the B final with Myles Fisher finishing in 3rd and then on Sunday, the team mates improved their positions when Myles took 8th in the A final and Daniel took 4th in the B final.
