Terry Penny is Biggy’s new coach

Biggleswade Rugby Club has announced the appointment of Terry Penny as head coach as the team prepares for the new season. Penny has been taking summer fitness training at the club for a few weeks and said: “There are some talented players within the senior squad and I will be getting to know their strengths over the next few weeks. But I’ll not ask them to do any fitness work that I couldn’t do myself”.

Prior to his arrival at Langford Road, Penny had managed Stevenage Town RFC in the London & South East Leagues. He achieved four Herts County Cup wins and promotion up to London One over a very successful ten season period.

He leave the Herts team on good terms, saying: “I have ten very successful years at the club and now look forward to a new challenge.”

Biggleswade chairman Steve Matthews commented: “Terry’s appointment is excellent news. We will be sitting down very shortly with the team captains and managers to go through some of our goals and ambitions.”

The club also intend to seek specialist coaching help from elite players and coaches from outside of the club to help achieve both club and coaches’ ambitions.

In addition to the appointment of head coach, the club confirms that Megan Higgs will continue as sports therapist in a unique arrangement which offers physiotherapy treatment to all club members from Minis through to Vets as part of their club membership. Megan will be assisted by Cat who is studying sports therapy at Moulton College.

Once again the club is indebted to The Health and Safety People for their generous support of Megan in a partnership with the club’s sports injury prevention programme which enters its fifth season.
