Glitz, Goals and Glamour: Reclaiming Confidence Through Community and Dance

A January celebration of body confidence, inclusivity and the empowering world of burlesque—led by two local instructors bringing the community together through sparkle, self-love and dance.
Dance has long been celebrated not just as an art form, but as a powerful tool for mental and physical wellbeing—and when practiced within a supportive community, its benefits deepen even further. Moving the body with intention can boost cardiovascular health, improve posture and flexibility, and release endorphins that help lift mood and reduce anxiety. Just as importantly, dancing alongside others fosters connection, belonging and confidence, offering a joyful antidote to isolation. In spaces where people are encouraged to celebrate their bodies rather than criticise them, movement becomes an act of self-care, empowerment and shared celebration.
In recent years, community-centred dance spaces, especially those rooted in body positivity, have become vital hubs for self-expression and personal growth. They offer people of all shapes, ages and backgrounds the chance to explore movement without judgment, replacing performance pressure with playfulness and mutual encouragement. Whether through a structured class or a spirited drop-in workshop, participants often discover a newfound sense of self in their bodies, along with friendships that extend far beyond the studio. In these environments, confidence isn’t something you wait to feel, it’s something you build together, one step, shimmy or strut at a time.
For many women, however, body insecurities run deep, shaped by years of unrealistic expectations and internalised criticism. These feelings can become so ingrained that they limit everyday choices, from what to wear to whether to try something new, joyful or challenging. Stepping into a dance class, especially one that celebrates rather than scrutinises the body, can feel daunting. But it’s often in taking that first brave step beyond the comfort zone that healing, confidence and genuine empowerment begin to take root.

Meeting instructors in a low-pressure setting can be an important first step toward easing those self-limiting beliefs and building trust in both the process and oneself. An introductory session or informal workshop offers the chance to experience the atmosphere, ask questions and gain reassurance before committing to regular classes. It’s also an opportunity to see first-hand the supportive, empowering approach that skilled instructors bring, making the transition from hesitation to genuine excitement far more achievable.
Two local burlesque performers and instructors have joined forces to send out a clear message to all women to say "we get it, youve got this, you are welcome". And to offer this relaxed, fun and welcoming chance to get a taster of what is available in regular classes.
Januarys Glitz, Goals and Glamour event is all about self worth, positivity, empowerment and fun, whilst giving you the chance to meet other women and learn from both of the instructors.
