Dig in to Potton's past at community archaeology event

History lovers are being invited to save the date ahead of a community archaeology event next year.

Central Bedfordshire Council’s archaeology service, Albion Archaeology, has teamed up with Potton History Society to organise six days of events to dig into the town’s past.

Experienced members of Potton History Society will help lead excavations at test pits around the town, with guidance from professional archaeologists at Albion Archaeology.

They are also hoping to involve Bedford's Young Archaeologists' Club, along with schools and Scout groups.

And they are looking to invite volunteers to get involved, as well as opening up some of the sites to the public so they can experience the action first-hand.

Councillor Adam Zerny, leader of Central Bedfordshire Council, said: "It's exciting to think what pieces of Potton's history might be waiting to be discovered just beneath our feet.

"This is a great opportunity to bring the community together, learn more about the town's past and inspire younger generations to take an interest in local history. We're looking forward to seeing what the dig uncovers."

The dates have provisionally been set as April 1 to 3 and 8 to 10 – but watch this space for further updates.
