Vehicle unexpectedly caught fire on road - and then sparked grassland blaze
Flames from a burning car caused a large area of grassland to catch fire in Sandy.
A crew from Shefford was called to New Road at 12.24pm on Thursday (August 20), after a vehicle fire set 10m x 10m of grassland alight.

A Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman told the Chronicle: “The owner was driving and noticed smoke coming from the front of their car.
"As they pulled onto New Road, they exited the vehicle as it set alight.”
The cause was accidental, with the fault believed to be “mechanical or electrical”.
