Biggleswade board games day will raise money for mental health charity

A Biggleswade gaming group is celebrating its first anniversary by holding a charity day for Mind BLMK.

And everyone is invited to Potton Hall for All on Sunday, November 15, from 10am until 8pm as TableTop Legends marks its one-year milestone.

There will be games, food and drink, demonstrations – and the chance to win raffle prizes worth a combined total of over £3,000.

Chair of TableTop Legends, Chris Wheeler, 48, said: "It's coming up to our one-year anniversary and we thought it would be nice to do something for our club members and open the doors to the community, too.

"It's the perfect opportunity to come and meet a group of like-minded people, and it's all for charity."

Guests are welcome to bring their own games, whilst there will be plenty of board, roleplaying, trading card, and tabletop war games available.

Vendors will include Hobby Hive, Miniature Mayhem, Gloombear’s Provisions, Kitten Poker Creations and Bad News 3D Printing – and there will be live art from Ashton Edwards and a speed painting competition run by miniature painter Wattsy Paints.

Chris said: "We will have a massive free play area where people can come along and bring board games, and side rooms for roleplaying games for small groups of people.

"There will be creators and writers from the games industry and you'll be able to ask them questions."

The team are working on a system whereby a green 'meeple' (gaming figure) will be on the table if you would like to jump in and join a game – and you don't need to bring a friend as it's all about meeting new people.

The social aspect of TableTop Legends has been a huge positive, and has inspired the fundraiser for Mind BLMK.

Chris said: "It's been really nice to see a range of people from different backgrounds and experiences come together. For some, it's been a tremendous confidence boost – and having activities to enjoy with other people helps to combat social isolation."

The group meets at St Andrew's Church Community Halls on the last Saturday of each month from 10.30am to 7.30pm.

There is also a group that meets at Northfields Community Centre every other Monday from 6.30pm until 10.30pm.

Advance booking is recommended for the anniversary event on November 15. Entry costs £5 per person and under-16s are free.

There will be food available from Cafe 2U and Pecoro on the Road. Click here to book your tickets.

Chris added: "I would like to say thank you to St Andrew's Church for being our hosts over the last year, and to Alex Costa for helping to set us up at Northfields, to the town council for our recent grant – some of which went towards the hall hire for our anniversary – and to the club committee for being supportive, coming up with ideas and helping us to forge forwards."
