Map reading and bird spotting - join Bedfordshire festival of walks
Bedfordshire Ramblers have announced details of this year’s autumn festival of walks, with more than 50 taking place across the county over the course of nine days.
Running from September 6 to 13, the programme features walks for all abilities with the opportunity to explore the more than 1,500 miles of rights of way across Bedfordshire.
Some of the walks require pre-booking, and the majority are free to attend, with some featuring pub stops.
The full programme is available here, including contact details for leaders, but here are a few examples of walks near Biggleswade that you can take part in.

On Sunday, September 6, there is a nine-mile circular walk visiting three Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire villages known as The Hatleys.
It starts outside The Chequers pub in Wrestlingworth at 9am, and takes in East Hatley, Hatley St George and Cockayne Hatley.
On the same day there is a shorter introduction to map reading walk beginning outside Old Warden Village Hall at 10am.
This walk is only a mile long and is described as being suitable for anyone ‘who has ever been on a walk and asked the question where am I?’
Finally on Sunday, September 13 there is a lakeside walk in Broom, beginning in the High Street at 10am, near to the village green.
This is described as a flat three-mile walk through countryside and surrounding lakes with an opportunity for some bird spotting.
The programme is organised by the Bedfordshire Ramblers, who write: “In conjunction with other walking and special interest groups, we aim to bring you a varied programme of walks throughout the nine days of this festival.
“Bedfordshire Ramblers would like to extend thanks to all those involved in contributing to this festival programme, both organisations and walk leaders.”
