Need Project in Stotfold sets up new support hub

A Food Bank Support Hub is being set up by The Need Project to further support the vital work it does helping people through the cost of living crisis.

The Need Project was established by King’s Baptist Church in Stotfold, but now works through a number of churches in Central Bedfordshire.

It is dedicated to helping the community with a focus on fighting rural poverty and offers various ways for people to get involved, such as donating items to food parcel drop-off points.

The new Support Hub is a free, friendly service to help people access services, find out what help they are entitled to and take the next steps.A spokesperson said: “We recognise that food support is often just one part of the wider challenges people are facing. Initially, we will offer a weekly drop-in session to assess demand and to gauge the level of support needed.

"This will provide a welcoming informal space where people can bring basic concerns or tasks they are struggling to manage.

“Where we identify a need for more specialist or ongoing support we will signpost or refer individuals to the appropriate services.”

These could include tasks like using a computer and filling in online forms, understanding letters, finding help and getting connected.

“Our aim is to provide practical, accessible support to help people take the next step while complementing the valuable work already being carried out by our referral partners,” the spokesperson added.

The Need Project charity was established to provide compassionate and practical Christian responses to people experiencing the effects of poverty and hardship.

Help on offer includes the provision of food parcels and furniture and clothing for as long as required and resources allow for adults and families experiencing financial crisis.

The charity works with local councils referral agencies, faith groups and community groups which support the charity’s projects through giving, and raising awareness.

It also provides educational support to enable those referred to become more self sufficient.

The new Support Hub will be available from 1pm to 3pm on Wednesdays at Stotfold Methodist Church. Call 07496 833940 to arrange an appointment.
