Water company carrying out emergency work to fix leaking fire hydrant in Sandy

A water company says it is carrying out emergency work to fix a leaking fire hydrant in Sandy – just days before the road will be closed yet again for more roadworks.

Anglian Water crews are currently working on Swaden in Sandy, with work scheduled to last until November 11.

But the company came under fire on social media – with residents saying the road had been dug up ‘without warning’, and that vital signs to warn drivers of the works were missing.

Anglian Water apologised and said repair was now complete – with reinstatement works taking place “over the next few days”.

The company confirmed its permit to close the road runs from November 5 to 11, but that it may finish the works earlier.

But there won’t be much respite for drivers – as the road is set to be closed yet again with more roadworks running from November 15 to 19.

In a statement, Sandy Town Council said: “We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank residents and road users for their patience and understanding.

“Please allow extra time for your journeys and seek alternative routes where possible.”
