A video of five-year-old Harry Proctor, from Ursula Taylor School, Clapham, was played to Major Tim asking “what can you see out of your window”.

The British astronaut replied directly to Harry explaining he could see Africa, and all the beautiful colours of the Sahara desert.

Headteacher Victoria Morrall said the whole school, along with Harry’s parents, gathered in the hall to watch the one-hour webcast, in which Major Tim answered questions from children around the country, and demonstrated experiments with water bubbles.

She said all Ursula Taylor pupils submitted video questions to the European Space Agency for consideration - along with about 7,000 other children,

“When Harry’s question came on screen, the whole school erupted,” she said. “He was so proud, he was beaming.”

“He was also a bit overwhelmed when Tim addressed him directly.”

The children of “Caterpillars” and “Snails” classes have been following the Major’s journey as part of their learning about space.

Tuesday’s Q&A event was hosted by the TES Cosmic Classroom via satellite link with Houston and the Liverpool World Museum.
