Beams lifted into place at Black Cat as more road closures announced

In a major milestone at the Black Cat junction, six bridge beams have been lifted into place.
It comes as another two sets of road closures were announced by National Highways as part of the A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet revamp.
Installed in three carefully braced pairs, each 43-metre girder weighed around 72 tonnes. Using an 800‑tonne crane, the team completed the lifts over two days.
The beams form a key part of the new bridge at the heart of the upgraded junction.
Now to the closures, they are:
Until June 10 – A1 northbound between Tempsford and Wyboston and A421 eastbound between Renhold and Black Cat overnight closure (9pm to 5am)
From Saturday, June 6 to Sunday, June 7 – A1 northbound closure between Tempsford and Black Cat (5am to 10pm)
Signed diversion routes will be in place.
