Saturday football: Arlesey stay top, Waders secure play-off berth

Arlesey Town remain top of the Southern League Central Division after victory on Saturday - and Biggleswade Town confirmed their place in the play-offs following a 5-1 home win against Atherstone.

At Rugby Town, Arlesey were 3-0 up at within ten minutes with strikes from Chris Marsh in the opening 60 seconds, Chris Dillon three minutes later and Marc Leach, the hosts finally pulling one back for 3-1 through Heath on the stroke of full time.

Meanwhile the Waders were 3-0 up at half time with goals from Harry Hunt on seven minutes, Jon Woolf on 22 and Stuart Lochhead on the half hour and, while they merely coasted through the second half until the Adders’ Tom Weale snatched what turned out to be an 84th minute consolation.

But it was Ashley Fuller and Craig Radcliffe who made it a nap hand with further strikes in the 87th and 89th minutes to move the Town up into third spot behind the Blues and Hitchin after Daventry lost 1-0 away to Aylesbury.

Long time leaders Hitchin won 5-1 at home to Bedfont while Slough, the fifth club in the play-off places at present, were 4-3 home winners against Northwood.

In the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division, Biggleswade United lost 4-1 away to Holmer Green while Stotfold held leaders Chalfont St Peter in a goalless draw away from home.

As for bottom of the table Langford, they went down 5-1 at home to Haringey Borough, and that result virtually seals their future in playing Division One football next season.

And finally in Division One of the United Counties League, Potton United won

2-1 when they travelled to Northampton to play ON Chenecks.
