Potton pick up a point in drab draw with Dunstable Town

The best thing that can be said about Potton United's 0-0 draw with Dunstable Town was that they both gained one point when both really needed three.
Neither side played too much football with the ball in the air a lot and didn’t create many clear cut chances.
Early on Nikolay Rusev shot high and wide. Then Dunstable broke away and Lodder saw his shot easily saved by Alex Desmond. Eddie Connolly passed to Reece Crowter who shot wide. A Potton defender miskicked but Lodder saw his shot saved again by Demond.
Following a Potton throw in Connolly shot into the side netting. Nikolay Rusev saw his shot easily saved and then following a good passing movement Rusev was offside. Rusev had a long shot that was easily saved. Following a Dunstable free kick Rahho headed wide. Matt Gilbert passed to Freddie Moriarty who saw his shot blocked and just before the half-time whistle Eri Akintimehin saw his free kick go over the bar.
After half time Lodder made a good run that finished with Smith’s shot being blocked. In the 60th minute Gilbert was sent to the sin bin for 10 minutes. While he was off the field Lodder shot wide of the post and Smith saw his shot blocked by Ben Holmes.
Gilbert returned to the field and his pass found Finley Lynch who shot wide. Charlie Clarke shot straight at the keeper. In the closing minutes Potton failed to clear their lines in the penalty area and a fierce shot from Bomolo was tipped over the bar by Desmond. 5 minutes of added time were played before the referee blew the final whistle. gh (Elliott Powell), Freddie Moriarty (Charlie Clark), Eddie Connolly, Josh Brown, Nikolay Rusev (Finley Lynch)
Three other Potton players were shown yellow cards during the match in a match that was played in reasonably good spirit.
A crowd of 110, with Dunstable bringing quite a few supporters, did not have much to shout about. Whether the necessity of gaining three points for either side made an impact on the way the match was played is difficult to say. Certainly Potton’s performance was way below that when they defeated Harlow.
On Saturday 14 February Potton are without a League match. The next League match is on Saturday 21 February when we are at home to Colney Heath in the League.
